Alexander Matthias Gerner estudou Filologia Germânica (Linguística e Literatura) na Universidade Ludwig Maximilian de Munique (1992-1997). Vive em Lisboa desde 2001. Frequentou um curso de filme documental em 2005. Bolseiro da FCT desde 2006, está a preparar o seu doutoramento em História e Filosofia da Ciência com o título Investigação Filosófica da Atenção sob a orientação de Olga Pombo e Nuno Nabais. É membro integrado do CFCUL desde 2005 e do Projecto FCT A Imagem na Ciência e na Arte. (Curriculum Vitae)

Projects
Alexander Gerner is also a playwriter, theatre director, and curator based in Lisbon(Portugal). Since 1997 he has been working as a play writer (Trance 1997; prize of the authors days State Theatre of Hannover)/State Theatre Zurich, director (Zap through my life Muffathalle München; theater prize Munich 1998). Os Cães(2010) Teatro Turim, Lisbon. As a director he has worked alone and in collaborations, for example with Marie Nerland (NOR), Jacob Wren (CAN), Matthias v. Hartz/Michael Bandt (D), Andresa Soares, Nuno Figueiredo/MolaDudle (PT) and has written, directed and produced theatre and Liveart projects in german, english and portuguese. His works have been presented at Kampnagel Hamburg, Art.Genda Hamburg, Mousonturm Frankfurt, Marstall Munich National Theatre, Spiel.Art Festival, i-camp Munich, Pumpenhaus Münster (D), Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zurich (CH), Mladi Levi Festival Ljubiljana (SLOW), Wiener Festwochen (A), BIT Teatergarasjen Bergen; Tou Scene (Stavanger); Bastard Festival (Trondheim); Meteor Festival (Bergen), Black Box Theatre Oslo (NOR), PS122 New York (USA), Centro Cultural de Belém (Box Nova), Convento do Beato, Teatro Turim, Sou/Festival AoGosto Lisbon (PT), and in non-institutional site-specific spaces as well as in art galleries.
Since 2000, he explores processes of search/discovery and creativity (as in Lost&Found. A office of search") as well as contemporary forms of performing new ways of social and political praxis inside theatre and art. His scientific research in between art and science and political social praxis as well as in his performative art as research is dealing with the following topics: attention/distraction (aesthetic experience), failures, ruptures and cracks in the landscape of intimicy and expectations, philosophy and performative praxis of (political, social, personal) orientation and (cognitive, social and experiential) transformation processes and dis-understanding(Ranciére), phenomenotecniques of diagrammatology and (personal, artistic and scientific) maps and map-making, forms of political and social cartographic self and cartographic reason, processes of invention-creation-discovery (abduction/diagrammatic reasoning), and personal and social-political utopia (He who does not work shall not eat! Undercover Ideas 1.0; Sou/ festival Ao Gosto 2010).
